Dénouement: Blood

The companion story I was running along with the Bloodlines didn’t garner as much attention as I had hoped.  In case you haven’t read it, the story is set in the same universe as the Let’s Play you’ve been (re-)watching here; it’s not just another random story.  There’s a fair bit of information that can be inferred about Ghouls and Blood Bonds in there, in case you wanted to get another angle on those topics.

I expanded a three-page background I’d written over a decade ago into a ten-thousand word story.  I did this partially as an exercise to see if I could, partially because I’ve always liked this background, and partially because it was topical with the Let’s Play.

Once again I have ended a story with an open-ended non-conclusion.  In this case, as the story was based on a background written for a tabletop character, the reason is obvious: the story hasn’t ended because I was about to play through the next part.  I didn’t take notes of the actual game (like I said, it was a decade ago, and we never reached a real conclusion anyway), so I couldn’t have written an actual ending based on the play.

I’m kind of frustrated with how my blog’s been going – daily updates isn’t an easy thing to come up with, and my viewership has been declining since I concluded XCOM, so this may be the last narrative/story/non-Let’s Play update for a while.

But anyway, if you haven’t read it but are enjoying the Let’s Play, you should give Blood a gander.  You might like it.

  1. For what it’s worth, I really enjoyed both the replay and the story you wrote. I apologize for this, but at a certain point I gave up waiting for your updates to the Let’s Play at some point and watched as much as I could on youtube.

You may recall my question about why you edited out the scary hotel. I figured the mission to examine the sarcophagus suffered the same fate, but apparently it didn’t? I did not see that part on youtube. Yet, when I tried to view the video of it from your blog, the video did not work.

Yeah, daily updates can be a drag, can’t they?

  2. (apparently wordpress login ate my previous comment?)

I liked both texts, I almost liked this more as it gave me a look into WoD that I didn’t just start twitching at. (I’ve got severe philosophical problems with the stuff they’ve baked into their world.)

I’d love to see an epilogue to this of “5-10″ years later with her own ghouls.

  3. Funnily enough, I’ve always enjoyed people’s efforts to dramatize their campaign into a coherent narrative, even the bad ones.
